NEW THIS SEASON
Hawksnest has recently built the biggest zipline course on the East Coast and will offer zipline tours throughout the winter season. The fun-filled 10-cable tour takes adventurers high above the snowtubing area before cruising through the woods on cables that range from 300 to 2,000 feet long. The resort will offer a four-cable tour on weekends and a 10-cable tour during the week.
FAMILY ADVENTURE
With a focus on snowtubing and zipline tours, all of Hawksnest is devoted to family adventure. The four different tubing sections have distinct characteristics. Some offer a faster, more thrilling ride with a steeper vertical drop and more whoop-de-dos, while others offer a more mellow experience for the younger kids. “You’ll get a different experience, no matter which tubing area you go to,” says mountain manager Lenny Cottom.
DID YOU KNOW
• You can purchase your tickets online in advance to save time. Tubing sessions are scheduled throughout the day, but have been known to sell out, so plan ahead.
• Moms and dads appreciate the new Coffee Bar, located in the Hawksnest Lodge at the bottom of the mountain. You can sip your coffee, stay warm, and still keep an eye on the kids.
• The famous Blue Ridge Parkway sits just minutes from Hawksnest. Much of the road is closed to vehicles during the winter, but it still offers a buffet of hiking opportunities. Check out Cascades Trail at mile marker 271.9 for an easy one-mile hike to a picturesque waterfall that often freezes in the winter.
